Sonlight and Feathers

Under this sky everything glitters, 
her knees and feet running over the grass,
his laugh splashing, hands starred, 
each finger alive with just this — 
ball and chase and the room to run.

Everything glitters under this light,
the windshields and bumpers of parked cars, 
spawning suns, the glossy leaves that canopy 
this blessed place where we sit, 
slice a peach, watch the children.

The wind carries everything else away.

I would stay just so until I understood 
everything this sky is telling.

The lovely starburst of his eyes when he sings: No
